Tampa Bay Water Service Area Remains at Highest Alert Level

At a time when most news reports about the economy are negative, a District program is providing a boon to the local economy.

This summer the District’s Land Resources Department assembled a group of people, all with a personal or professional interest in the availability of District lands for public use, to hear their input on how the District can maintain the balance between preservation and public access.

There have been a lot of famous duos like Abbott and Costello, Starsky and Hutch and Batman and Robin. The District has its own famous duo and they’re still working side by side after more than 20 years.

This summer the District coordinated restoration efforts on two tracts of District-owned land in Manatee County — the Little Manatee River Southfork Tract and the Edward W. Chance Reserve’s Gilley Creek Tract.

A light rain greeted about 100 children from the Boys & Girls Club of Hernando County as they arrived at the Weekiwachee Preserve, but the sprinkles didn’t dampen their excitement. The children were there to learn about water resources through fun, hands-on exercises and explorations.
