Connector Trail Into Starkey Park Completes

Starkey Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Governing Board member Judy Whitehead, far left, and Pasco County commissioners and stakeholders cut the ribbon for the opening of the new connector trail into Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park in New Port Richey. Federal stimulus money helped fund the $578,000 project, which improves access to the park for pedestrians and bicyclists. The connector trail improves safety for park users, creating a scenic multiuse path off the park’s main entrance road from Starkey Boulevard through the park to the trailhead and eventually to the Suncoast Trail. The ceremony also recognized the contributions of Robert J. Tietz, a Pasco County biologist who died in 2010. Pasco County government representatives and members of the Starkey and Tietz families were on hand to help cut the ribbon.
