John Fitzgerald has more than 27 years of experience in water management. He leads the development of regional water supply plans and directs the science and modeling used to evaluate and establish Minimum Flows and Levels. He also oversees creation of prevention and recovery strategies, resource assessments for lakes, rivers, wetlands, and springs, and the identification and feasibility analysis for regional projects.
Fitzgerald holds a bachelor’s degree in natural resources (biology) from the University of North Florida, a master’s degree in biology (ecology) from East Carolina University, and a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
Fitzgerald serves as an advisor to both the One Water Florida Commission and WateReuse Florida and is a member of the Southeast Desalting Association.
He proudly served his country and retired as a Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve where he deployed numerous times in response to multiple hurricanes, oil spills, including Deepwater Horizon, and national security and defense operations related to 9/11, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
