Bart Weiss, PG, has more than 30 years of experience in water supply resiliency where he is a leader in potable reuse in Florida and the nation. In 2016 he directed the state’s first Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) Pilot Project and helped spearhead Florida’s Potable Reuse Commission.
His industry leadership includes being the only two-time president of WateReuse Florida and president of the National WateReuse Association. Weiss also served on the Water Research Foundation board of directors where he continued to promote research to advance treatment technology and the safety of potable reuse.
In 2018 Weiss was appointed to create the Office of Innovation, Resiliency and Sustainability for Hillsborough County, which spans climate change, sea level rise, disaster management and One Water initiatives. This was in part due to him creating multiple innovative and resilient programs for Hillsborough County, including SHARP (the coastal reclaimed water aquifer recharge and saltwater intrusion barrier program) now approaching 30 billion gallons stored, that will allow Hillsborough County to successfully meet Senate Bill 64 mandates ahead of schedule. SHARP is also being utilized by Tampa Bay Water to withdraw fresh groundwater from credits to supply Hillsborough County’s South County service area.
