Water Management Districts Team Up to Protect Central Florida’s Wetlands | Crooked Lake Prairie

At Crooked Lake Prairie, a Polk County preserve within the Central Florida Water Initiative (CFWI) area, wetland scientists from three water management districts — St. Johns River, South Florida, and Southwest Florida — are working together to ensure the sustainability of Central Florida's water resources. This collaborative effort marks the 10th year of a critical wetland monitoring program. Teams are out in the field gathering consistent and reliable data on wetland boundaries, soil characteristics, and hydrologic indicators — all of which are essential for understanding the impacts of groundwater withdrawals on surface waters like lakes, rivers, and wetlands.
