District Governing Board members and staff recently launched the Florida Water Star℠ Gold (FWSG) program at a new development in Dunedin. FWSG is the District’s comprehensive water conservation program for new-home construction.

Glencairn Cottages, which is being built by Pocket Neighborhoods, Inc., was the first FWSG-certified property. Some of the features that earned Glencairn the FWSG certification include water-conserving plumbing fixtures such as high-efficiency toilets, water-efficient ENERGY STAR® appliances, and low-maintenance, Florida-friendly landscaping. The irrigation system, which will use reclaimed water and micro-irrigation, will irrigate only the pedestrian-friendly common areas.

“New green energy-efficient homes are popular in Florida,” said Susan Douglas, FWSG certification coordinator. “This program will help builders and landscape and irrigation professionals conserve water resources and meet the needs of these new homebuyers.”
