Holiday Charity Drive Helps Others

Caring For Our Communities

This fall marks the 9th year of coordinated efforts for the District’s employee committee holiday season benevolent activities.

The District supports a variety of charitable organizations during the holiday season, but the main goal of the benevolent efforts is to help employees, their families, and their friends and neighbors who are in need. Families are recommended by anonymous referral forms, then “adopted” by individuals, departments or other groups of employees who want to make the holidays a little brighter for a family.

During the 2003 holiday season, 35 families with varying degrees of need received assistance. While some families were adopted, others may have only needed grocery store gift certificates. In addition to helping families in need, 25 foster children were also “adopted.” By sponsoring a foster child for the holidays, District staff supplied clothing and other gifts to help make the kids’ holidays happier.

As part of the District’s Employee Committee efforts, items for local food pantries are collected October through December. Containers for donations of nonperishable food and personal care items will be located at District headquarters in Brooksville and at each participating Service Office.

The District’s Employee Committee also supports other charitable organizations during the holiday season.
