Water shortage rules are in effect
The Water Shortage Order, which restricts lawn watering to one-day-per-week throughout the 16 counties within the Southwest Florida Water Management District, is in effect.
Charlotte County creeks to be treated for water hyacinth and water lettuce
The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be treating water hyacinth and water lettuce on portions of Shell Creek and Prairie Creek Jan. 22-25. The sites are located upstream of the Henderson Dam in Charlotte County.

Severe water shortage declared
Southwest Florida Water Management District Executive Director David L. Moore today declared a modified Phase II Severe Water Shortage which restricts lawn watering to one-day-per-week throughout the 16-county District.
Water conservation a part of Heritage Festival
Water conservation will be a focal point at this year’s Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival with the addition of the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s water-conserving restroom. The restroom station will be at the annual event Jan. 13-14 at Al Lopez Park in Tampa.
Lake Tarpon to be treated for Water Hyacinth and Water Lettuce
The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be treating water hyacinth and water lettuce on portions of Lake Tarpon Jan. 811.Scattered infestations of these plants will be treated along shoreline areas of Lake Tarpon.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Serenova Tract, which is part of the Starkey Wilderness Preserve, will be closed to the public Jan. 12-14.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be conducting “controlled, prescribed burns” during January and February for two District sites in Sarasota County the Schewe Ranch property and the Deer Prairie Creek property.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be conducting “controlled, prescribed burns” during January and February on the Prairie-Shell Creek property. The Charlotte County site is west of U.S. Hwy. 17 and east of the Peace River, approximately 8 miles northeast of Punta Gorda.
Controlled burns scheduled for District land in Highlands County
The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be conducting “controlled, prescribed burns” during January and February on the District’s Jack Creek property in Highlands County. The property, which is in the Leisure Lakes area, is approximately 1 mile west of U.S. Hwy.
