Sumter County water resources education projects honored
The Southwest Florida Water Management District honored two outstanding Sumter County projects that focused on water resources education. A total of 27 projects were recognized during the “Partners in Watershed Education Conference” at the Lake Mirror Complex in Lakeland.
Citrus County water resources education project honored

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be treating water hyacinth and water lettuce on portions of Shell Creek and Prairie Creek Nov. 13-16. The sites are located upstream of the Henderson Dam in Charlotte County.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Hampton Tract, which is part of the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve, will be reserved Nov. 17-19 to allow disabled hunters the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. The property will be closed to the public during this time.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be treating water hyacinth and water lettuce on portions of the Withlaccochee River Nov. 6-9.The section of the river being treated is located between State Road 41 and State Road 200 in Citrus, Marion and Sumter counties.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be treating water hyacinth and water lettuce on portions of the Braden River Nov. 6-9. The sites are located south of State Road 70 in Manatee County.
