The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Serenova Tract, which is part of the Starkey Wilderness Preserve, will be closed to the public Jan. 12-14. The District is limiting access to the property to prepare for an event that allows disabled hunters the opportunity to experience the outdoors.
The Serenova Tract is located in Pasco County, adjacent to the Tampa Bay Water Starkey wellfield. The entrance is just west of the Suncoast Parkway on the south side of State Road 52, across from Hayes Road.
The hunt is a joint effort between the District and the National Wild Turkey Federation/Wheelin’ Sportsmen. Approximately 20 hunters have already been selected for this event. They will use crossbows and bows to hunt deer and hogs. For more information about participating in future events, visit the National Wild Turkey Federation web site www.nwtf.org.
This hunt is one of more than 20 events the National Wild Turkey Federation/ Wheelin’ Sportsmen holds throughout Florida each year. Several of these outdoor events are taking place on District land. The outings include different types of hunts and a fishing day.
