A water conservation project funded by the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Manatee County will reduce demand and conserve water.
The project will offer rebates to eligible residents who install a rain sensor device on their automatic irrigation system. Residents who live in the western unincorporated service area of Manatee County and the cities of Anna Maria, Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach are eligible to participate if they use potable water for irrigation and are billed by Manatee County Utilities Operations.
Residents who provide documentation of the rain sensor purchase and installation cost will receive up to $50 per rain sensor. Participants are also subject to a home inspection for verification.
The total cost for this program is $12,500, which will be divided among the District’s Manasota Basin Board and Manatee County. Based on a similar project in Hernando County, this project is expected to conserve 25,000 gallons of water per day.
Eligible residents interested in participating in the water conservation rain sensor project may contact Manatee County Extension Service at 941-722-4524.
