Marion County Offering Low-Flow Toilet Rebates

News Release

Two water management districts are partnering with Marion County Utilities to offer customers rebates of up to $100 for replacing their high-flow toilets.

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District(Southwest Florida Water Management District)":/ and "St. Johns River Water Management District(St. Johns River Water Management District)": are partnering to help "Marion County Utilities(Marion County Utilities)": fund rebates to county customers.

Replacing older high-flow toilets with water-efficient toilets, which use 1.6 gallons per flush or less, or high-efficiency toilets, which use 1.28 gallons per flush, could save each household as much as 200 gallons per day. There are about 9,840 homes eligible for participation in the program with each water management district partially funding 700 rebates in the first year.

Participants must be current customers of Marion County Utilities to be eligible for the rebate. The toilets being replaced must be made and installed before 1995 and use 3.5 gallons of water or more per flush.

Educational information will also be provided to customers about water conservation, which will include leak detection and the proper selection of parts for water-saving toilets.

The total cost of this project is $150,000. Marion County is funding $50,000 of the program's cost, with the Southwest Florida Water Management District's Withlacoochee River Basin Board and the St. Johns River Water Management District each funding $50,000.

Customers are encouraged to reserve their rebate as soon as possible since there are a limited number of rebates available. Rebates cannot be approved without a prior reservation. For more information call 1-800-964-2140.
