The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be treating water hyacinth and water lettuce on portions of Shell and Prairie creeks Aug. 17-21. The sites are located upstream of the Henderson Dam in Charlotte County.

At its August 13 meeting, the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Withlacoochee River Basin Board adopted a fiscal year 2010 (FY2010) millage rate of 0.2308 mill, which is the same as the current fiscal year.

At its August 12 meeting, the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Manasota Basin Board adopted a fiscal year 2010 (FY2010) millage rate of 0.1484 mill, which is the same as the current fiscal year. The Manasota Basin Board area includes Manatee and Sarasota counties.

Three reappointed members of the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Peace River Basin Board took their oaths of office during the Basin Board’s August meeting.Rufus Lazzell, Paul Samuels and Fred Trippensee were all reappointed by Governor Charlie Crist in June.

Governor Charlie Crist recently reappointed Jack Bispham and Frank Strelec to the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Manasota Basin Board.Paul J. “Jack” Bispham is the owner of Bayside Sod and lives in Sarasota. His term ends March 1, 2011.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will recognize REAL Building's Darren Brinkley for earning a Florida Water Star GoldSM (FWSG) certification on a home in northeast St. Petersburg where he and his family now live.
