Workshop Aims to Make Hernando County Yards

Hernando County residents interested in learning about how to create beautiful landscapes, conserve water and protect the environment can take advantage of a unique educational opportunity. A “Florida-Friendly Landscaping Grow Smart” workshop will be conducted in Hernando County at the SNPJ Lodge on March 2. The SNPJ Lodge is located at 13383 County Line Road in Brooksville.

The half-day program, open to all Hernando County residents, starts at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will focus on these topics:

EZ Florida-Friendly Landscapes
De-Mistifying Your Irrigation System
Watershed It’s Not a Place to Store Your Garden Hose

The sessions will be taught by John Korycki of the Hernando County Extension Service, Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program; Skip Wright of the Florida Irrigation Society, and Dr. Joan Bradshaw, University of Florida/IFAS Natural Resources faculty. Door prizes and informational booths will also be part of the program. At the end of the day, Florida-Friendly Landscaping Grow Smart “graduates” receive a certificate of completion.

Pre-registration is required. The $10 registration fee for this program includes materials and refreshments. Customers of the Hernando County Utilities Department will receive a rebate on their bill for the registration fee.
