The Southwest Florida Water Management District is working with Manatee County Utilities to help their customers save money and conserve water by providing rebates to customers who replace their high-volume toilets.
Residential, commercial and industrial customers within the Manatee County Utilities service area, which includes western unincorporated Manatee County and the cities of Anna Maria, Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach, are eligible to participate in the rebate program which provides up to $100 for each high-volume toilet replaced with an ultra-low volume or high-efficiency toilet. Customers must apply for the rebate before any work is done.
High-volume toilets can use three gallons or more per flush, while ultra-low volume toilets use up to 1.6 gallons per flush and high-efficiency toilets use up to 1.28 gallons per flush.
This is the third phase of the project, which is expected to replace up to 900 high-volume toilets. It is estimated that toilets replaced through this program’s first two phases save up to 20,079 gallons per day, which is 7,328,835 gallons per year!
In addition to providing rebates, program participants will also receive information on proper maintenance practices, such as flapper replacement, to ensure that their low-flow toilets continue to conserve water. They will also receive information about other methods of indoor water conservation.
This phase is expected to cost $126,144. As part of the agreement, Manatee County may receive up to $63,072 in financial assistance from the District’s Manasota Basin Board.
