Take the Pledge for Water Conservation Month

Pledge to conserve during one of the driest months of the year

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is urging residents to join their family and friends in pledging to conserve water during the state's annual Water Conservation Month in April.

Each year local governments and water management districts throughout the state declare April as Water Conservation Month because April is traditionally one of the driest months of the year and typically marks the peak demand season for public water suppliers.

This year, the District has developed an easy, online water conservation pledge for the entire family. Family members can pledge to:

  • Reduce daily showers by two minutes and save up to 240 gallons per month.
  • Replace showerheads with low-flow models and save around 480 gallons per month.
  • Turn off the tap while brushing teeth and shaving, and save up to 225 gallons per month.
  • Fix dripping faucets and save around 1,650 gallons per month.
  • Turn off the home's irrigation system and only water as needed, and save up to 2,000 gallons each time a watering day is skipped.
  • Check the home's irrigation system for leaks and potentially save up to 6,300 gallons of water per month.
  • Run the clothes washer and dishwasher only when full and save up to 175 gallons per month.
  • Use a hose with a shutoff nozzle when washing the car and save around 40 gallons per wash.

Everyone who takes the pledge will be entered into a drawing to win one of 25 free water conservation kits.
