Public invited to learn about Morris Bridge Sink pump test

News Release

The public is invited to attend a meeting to learn about a proposed pump test at the Morris Bridge Sink.

The meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 10, 6 p.m. at the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Tampa Service Office, which is located at 7601 U.S. Highway 301 North in Tampa.

The pump test will take place later this month or in early March and will last 30 days. However, given the severity of the current drought, Tampa Bay Water, the region’s wholesale water supplier, has requested emergency authorization from the District to continue pumping from the sink upon completion of the District’s pump test.

During the meeting, District staff will provide an overview of the proposed pump test and answer any questions residents may have about the test. Representatives from Tampa Bay Water and the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission will also be on hand to answer questions.

The purpose of the test is to collect information needed to design a permanent pump station at the sink. The District must have a permanent pump station in operation at the sink by October 2012. The permanent pump station is part of the District’s Lower Hillsborough River minimum flow recovery strategy, which was adopted in Aug. 2007.

For more information, please call the District’s Operations Department at 352-796-7211, ext. 4222 or 800-423-1476, ext. 4222.
