Media Alert: WET, WILD and Woodsy training at Camp Honi Hanta

News Release

Who: K–12 educators, Southwest Florida Water Management District staff, Project Learning Tree representatives, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission staff and the Girls Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc.

What: This statewide training opportunity will teach educators exciting ways to incorporate environmental conservation and water resources education in activities and in the classroom. Saturday’s workshops include “The Incredible Journey,” a role playing game that shows students how the water cycle works and “Molecules in Motion,” another role playing game that teaches students about each of water’s physical states. Sunday’s workshops include “Water Address,” an exercise that teaches students to identify plants and animals through clues about their water-related adaptations.

When:Saturday, February 7, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday, February 8, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: Camp Honi Hanta, Bradenton

Why: Educators will be taking part in a unique environmental educational training workshop and earning in-service credits.

WET, WILD and Woodsy Workshop Fact Sheet

•The Southwest Florida Water Management District, in partnership with Project Learning Tree, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Girls Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. is hosting a statewide three-in-one training opportunity for K–12 educators.

•The two-day workshop offers interdisciplinary water education and environmental conservation programs in the form of free training in Project WET, Project WILD and Project Learning Tree.

•Workshop participants will receive curricula and activity guides filled with hands-on activities and lessons, free educational resources and materials, and giveaways

•Participating educators will also receive in-service credits through their school district by providing proper documentation of attendance.

•Food and lodging will be provided by the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. for a reduced price of $50.

•Participants include educators from: Learning Gate Community School in Lutz, Lakeland’s Southwest Middle School, Palm Beach County, Collier County Parks and Recreation, and St. Augustine’s Alligator Farm Zoological Park
