Media Alert: Senator to view progress on Morrison Pool berm repairs

News Release

Who: State Sen. Charles Dean (R, Inverness), Southwest Florida Water Management District staff

What:The senator will tour the site where the District is repairing a berm breach in the Morrison Pool.

When:Wednesday, May 13, 9:30 a.m.

Where:Morrison Pool berm, just off the Florida Rails to Trails trail

Why:The Southwest Florida Water Management District is repairing a berm breach in the Morrison Pool. The berm surrounds the north sinkhole in the Morrison Pool and prevents water from Morrison Pool and Little Lake Henderson from flowing into the sinkhole when the lake is low.

Morrison Pool and Little Lake Henderson are part of the Inverness Pool. The repaired berm will help reduce the loss of water in the lakes that make up the Inverness Pool by 1.7 million gallons per day.

An aqua-barrier was placed at the railroad trestle that separates the lake from the pool in early April to expedite the repair work. When the berm repair is complete, the aqua-barrier will be removed. Once the aqua-barrier is removed, water from the lake will restore the water level in the pool. Construction to repair the berm began on April 29 and will be completed this week.
