What: The city is holding a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on a reclaimed water transmission line. This $2 million project is being funded by the District’s Withlacoochee River Basin Board and the city.
When: Monday, Feb. 4, 5 p.m.
Where: The Inverness Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at 3900 S. Florida Ave., Inverness.
Why: The District and the city will celebrate the start of the construction of a reclaimed water transmission line that will transport reclaimed water from the wastewater treatment plant to the Inverness Golf and Country Club and the athletic fields at Holden Park. The use of reclaimed water to irrigate the golf course and athletic fields will offset 314,000 gallons per day of ground water.

Directions: From Crystal River: Take S.R. 44 east to U.S. 41/S. Florida, turn right and go south until you reach the wastewater treatment plant.
Inverness Reclaimed Water Project
- This project involves the construction of 17,000 feet of reclaimed water transmission line and the expansion of a pump station located at the wastewater treatment plant.
- The project will provide reclaimed water to the Inverness Golf and Country Club and the athletic fields at Citrus County’s Holden Park.
- The project is expected to be complete in December 2010. When complete, it will offset 314,000 gallons per day (gpd) of ground water.
- The District’s Withlacoochee River Basin Board and the city are sharing the cost of this $2 million project.
- As a separate project, the city is upgrading its wastewater treatment plant.

- Almost 9,000 acres of mostly citrus crops are irrigated with reclaimed water.
- About 78,000 residential customers in our area irrigate with reclaimed water.
