Improve Your Home's "Curb Appeal" with Florida-Friendly Landscaping Contest

News Release

With the growing popularity of home improvement shows, the Southwest Florida Water Management District believes it has found a way to promote Florida-Friendly landscaping.

The District is cooperating in “Curb Appeal,” a contest created by Cox Radio for Stanek Windows. One homeowner will win home and landscaping improvements, including up to $5,000 in new windows and a front yard makeover of up to a $10,000 value using Florida-Friendly plants and landscaping techniques.

“The District strongly supports the Florida-Friendly landscaping principles because, when implemented, water supply, water quality, as well as the natural systems that surround us, can benefit,” said Sylvia Durell, project manager for the District.

Homeowners from the Tampa Bay area are eligible to enter. Contestants must submit an entry form via the contest page on either1073theeagle.com orwduv.com. Entries can also be submitted at the Stanek Windows showroom on 11721 U.S. 19 N. in Clearwater.

The deadline for submissions is August 7, 2005.

The winner will be chosen from six finalists on August 13 at the Stanek Windows showroom.

The contest is a cooperative effort with Stanek Windows, Cox Radio and Hillsborough and Pinellas County Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program staff.View contest details.

“More and more landscape professionals realize an investment in protecting Florida’s water resources is important to everyone’s future,” said Durell.

The cooperators will work with the winner in choosing a design and timeframe to complete the work. The landscaping will be installed after the other improvements are complete. Hillsborough and Pinellas County Florida Yards and Neighborhoods staff and master gardeners will volunteer their time to install the landscaping.
