News Release

h2. District Seeking Public Input on Evaluation of Properties for Hunting

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District(Southwest Florida Water Management District)":/ is gathering information to determine if there are additional hunting opportunities available on public lands that are managed by the District.

As part of that information-gathering effort, the District is holding a public workshop on *Friday, July 29*, beginning at *3:30 p.m.* at the Hillsborough Community College *John R. Trinkle Center in Plant City*. The Trinkle Center is located at 1206 North Park Road. District staff will be available to present information and receive public comment from *3:30 to 6 p.m.*

The goal of this workshop is to receive feedback on hunting opportunities on District-managed lands. In cooperation with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the District is currently evaluating eight properties for additional hunting opportunities. The results of the evaluation to date will be presented at the public meeting.

There have been no additional lands designated for hunting and no change to current seasons or duration of hunting where it is currently allowed. The evaluation of District-managed public lands for hunting is a multi-step process with numerous opportunities for public comment. To date, no recommendations have been made. Any final recommended changes will be discussed at public meetings and ultimately presented to the District's 13-member Governing Board for consideration. Public comment will be accepted at all of these meetings.

At the July 29 meeting, the District will be taking comments from anyone who wishes to speak. Due to the large expected turnout, residents will be asked to fill out "Request to Speak" cards, which will be available at the meeting. Speakers will be called upon during the public input portion of the agenda.
