Friday Concert Goers to Enjoy Added Entertainment

News Release

Families coming out to see the Friday Extra Concert series this week will be treated to some extra entertainment before the main event.

Stages Productions will perform “Aesop’s Aqua Adventures,” a live, interactive water resource and conservation theatre presentation, at 6:15 p.m. this Friday, April 29 at Lowry Park band shell. A concert featuring Molten Mike and Freight Train Annie will follow the performance.

Updating several classic fables, “Aesop’s Aqua Adventure” teaches students that “to have water in times of drought, we must conserve water even when it’s raining out.”

The performance is part of the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Water Conservation Education project, an in-school, arts-based project that fosters individual responsibility to protect water resources and conserve drinking water through storytelling and audience participation.

The project, which is in its twelfth year, reaches more than 65,000 elementary and middle school students and teachers in Hillsborough County public, private and alternative schools with 300 live theatrical performances and associated curriculum materials. A resource kit to enhance the educational value of the program also is given to all participating elementary schools.

The program is cooperatively funded by the Tampa Water Department and the District’s Alafia River, Hillsborough River and Northwest Hillsborough Basin Boards.

Other program partners include the School District of Hillsborough County, the Hillsborough County Water Department and the Arts Council of Hillsborough County.

This successful program was the model for a similar program in Pinellas County Educate to Conserve Water Through the Arts program.
