The event, which is Saturday, April 11 from 10am-6pm, is being held at The Health Chic House, 12 N. 5th St. in Haines City.

Workshops include Florida-friendly landscaping, composting, rain barrels, micro-irrigation, aquaponics, and other water saving tips.

Additional workshops are available as well as several activities, including a blood drive, kids games, an eco-car exhibit, music, storytelling, chair massage, and karaoke.

The event is one of a series of workshops by The Health Chic, Inc. that are partially funded by a Community Education Grant from the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The grant program is funded through the District’s Basin Boards, including the Alafia River and Peace River Basin Boards.

The overall goal of the District’s Community Education Grant program is to actively engage adults in water-related issues pertaining to conservation, protection and preservation. Funded by the District’s Basin Boards, the program is intended to motivate communities to get involved in watershed protection through various activities and educational formats.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s 2010 Community Education Grant program will begin its application process in June 2009. For more information, please call the District’s Communications Department at 1-800-423-1476 or 352-796-7211, ext. 4757.
