District renews Tampa Bay Water permit for the South Central Hillsborough County Regional Wellfield

News Release

The Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board last week renewed Tampa Bay Water’s water use permit (WUP) for the South Central Hillsborough County Regional Wellfield.

The service area includes approximately 122,000 acres in southern Hillsborough County located approximately seven miles south of Plant City and includes the Lithia and Keysville areas.

The water use permit is for an annual average of 24,100,000 gallons of water per day (gpd.) There were no changes to the permitted quantities. The quantities are based on demand projections, historical pumpage data and documented gross per capita rates. Currently, 285,241 people are served by this permit and the gross per capita rate is 100 gallons per person per day.

As part of the permit, the gross per capita rate must not go above 150 gallons per person per day. Tampa Bay Water must also document the use of alternative water supply sources.

The permit expires Dec. 31, 2020.
