District to Hold Series of Public Meetings for 2013 Recreation Evaluation

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/ (District) will hold a series of public meetings for the 2013 Recreation Evaluation process.

District staff has conducted a review and evaluation of recreational opportunities on District-managed lands. The public is invited to review staff's preliminary findings and provide input at any of four scheduled regional public information meetings. These meetings will be an open house format and take place from 6¬–8 p.m. at the following locations:

*October 3:* Brooksville Headquarters, located at 2379 Broad Street

*October 17:* Sarasota Service Office, located at 6750 Fruitville Road

*October 24:* Tampa Service Office, located at 7601 U.S. Highway 301 North

*November 5:* Bartow Service Office, located at 170 Century Boulevard

Please note that the same information will be presented at each meeting. Comment forms and a recreation survey will also be available at the meetings as well as on the District's website.

Results of the analysis, along with public input will be used to develop preliminary recommendations on District-managed recreational opportunities. These recommendations will be presented to the District's Recreation Ad Hoc Committee, comprised of four Governing Board Members and final recommendations will be forwarded to the full Governing Board for final review and approval.

The District's recreation program covers approximately 225,000 acres of lands and consists of 472 miles of trails, 204 campsites and 10 public hunt areas. Recreation uses include hiking, biking, horseback riding, birding, hunting, picnicking, camping, fishing and nature study/wildlife viewing.
