District Encourages You to "Take the Pledge"

News Release

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is encouraging people to log onto its web site to take the Watershed Pledge.

The Watershed Pledge was created to encourage people to make a commitment to protecting their watershed. Making simple changes in and around their home can positively impact our water resources.

A watershed is an area of land that water flows across as it moves toward a common body of water, such as a stream, river, lake or coast. A watershed is where people live, work and play.

“We hope the pledge will encourage people to actively participate in activities that will impact their watershed in a positive way,” said Beth Bartos, communications manager. “Some of those activities include conserving water and maintaining septic tanks.”

The Watershed Pledge is being distributed to more than 28,000 students who are participating in the District’s Splash! Mini-Grant program and to citizens who are participating in the District’s Community Education Grant program.

Those who complete the pledge will receive a free commitment bracelet, similar to the Lance Armstrong “Courage” bracelets.

The introduction of the District’s watershed pledge coincides with Water Conservation Month.
