Advisory Session in Tampa Focuses on Grant Questions

News Release

Groups and individuals interested in applying for a Southwest Florida Water Management District community education grant are invited to attend a grant advisory session for residents with questions about the grants.

The advisory session will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Tampa Service Office in Conference Room B. The Service Office is located at 7601 U.S. Hwy. 301, Tampa.

This “open-house style” session is aimed at answering questions about the application process but they are also a great opportunity for brainstorming, organizing, or even just getting an idea for a possible project for your neighborhood. Appointments are not required, but you may make one by calling 1-800-423-1476, ext. 5967. You can also request an application package by calling the same number or by or visiting the District’s Web site at WaterMatters.org.

Grant applications are due Oct. 15, 2004.

This is the ninth year the District is offering the grants, which are funded by the District’s Basin Boards. The grant program is intended to motivate adults to get involved in water protection through various educational activities and programs. Projects should involve and educate on any or all of the following issues: water quality, water supply, natural systems, and flood protection. The application screening committee is looking for innovative projects that provide learning experiences that will lead to cost-effective water resources protection.
