First monthly permit meeting set for Aug. 5

News Release

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will hold aPublic Meeting for Pending Permit Applications on Aug. 5, 9 a.m., at the District’s Tampa Service Office.

The monthly meetings will afford the public an opportunity to comment on pending permits prior to a final decision being made by the District.

The meetings were developed in response to the passage this year ofSenate Bill 2080 that changed the process by which water resource permits are approved by the state’s five water management districts. Senate Bill 2080 directs the governing boards of the water management districts to delegate their authority to approve permits to their executive directors.

“Public input is an important part of the permitting process. We developed these monthly meetings to ensure that the public would continue to have the opportunity to express their views about pending permits prior to any final decisions being made,” said David L. Moore, District executive director.

An agenda for each monthly meeting with pending permit information will be posted on the District’s web site at WaterMatters.org/calendar. The agenda will include links to search pages that will allow residents to review additional information about the pending permits.

As an alternative to commenting at the meeting, the public may also submit comments on a permit application by writing to David L. Moore, Executive Director, Southwest Florida Water Management District, 2379 Broad Street, Brooksville, FL 34604-6899. An email contact link is also available at WaterMatters.org/contact/. Please be sure to identify the permit clearly.

If you have submitted a comment via one of the written or electronic means described above, you are not required to attend the meeting to have your comment considered prior to the permitting decision.
