News Release

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District's(Southwest Florida Water Management District)":/ "Governing Board(Governing Board)":/about/governingboard Tuesday renewed a water use permit for the Tampa Bypass Canal Harney Canal Pump Station.

The renewed permit allows "Tampa Bay Water(Tampa Bay Water)":http://www.tampabaywater.org to withdraw an average of 20 million gallons per day from the "Tampa Bypass Canal(Tampa Bypass Canal)":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/recreation/areas/tampabypass.html, which is unchanged from the previous permit, to augment the city of Tampa's Hillsborough River Reservoir.

The permit requires Tampa Bay Water to report metering and pumpage data from the withdrawal point, record surface water levels, submit an annual report and investigate withdrawal-related complaints.

The Tampa Bypass Canal Harney Canal Pump Station permit expires May 24, 2031.

Tampa Bay Water, a regional wholesale water supplier, provides water to Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties, as well as the cities of New Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Tampa. Other cities in the three-county area receive at least some of their water from these six public supply systems.

A copy of the permit is available in the May 24 Governing Board Notebook on the District's web site at WaterMatters.org/calendar/. Click on the "Meetings & events calendar" and then scroll down to the notebook.
