No Sales Tax on Efficient Appliances

The District reminds residents that qualifying water and energy-efficient appliances will be tax free Sept. 19-21.

The 2014 Sales Tax Holiday is good on the purchase of qualifying ENERGY STAR® and WaterSense® products up to $1,500. Each person in our region uses an average of 104 gallons of water each day. The average household can use 30 percent less water and save about $170 per year by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Some of those items include:

  • High-efficiency toilets or urinals
  • Faucets
  • Showerheads
  • Weather or sensor-based irrigation controllers
  • Clothes washers
  • Dishwashers
  • Water heaters
  • Refrigerators

Consumers should look for the ENERGY STAR and WaterSense labels to find qualifying items. These labels indicate the products meet the requirements of the U.S. EPA.

Installing efficient appliances can also help homeowners, builders and developers meet the criteria for Florida Water Star℠ certification. The program encourages water efficiency through the voluntary certification program for new residential and commercial construction and existing home renovation.
