Six local organizations and individuals were recently recognized for their work to further water conservation.
The awards were given as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Florida Water Star℠ program. The voluntary certification program encourages water efficiency in appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and landscapes.
The six awards given were:
• Private Builder Award – On Top of the World in Ocala
• Nonprofit Builder Award – Florida Home Partnership in Ruskin
• Program Partner Award – Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association in Orlando
• Training Partner Award – Kurt Thompson and Associates in Orlando
• Certification Program Partner Award – Florida Green Building Coalition in Tallahassee
• Program Certifier Award – Nathan Ritter with GreenBuilt Solutions in Orlando
The winners were leaders in conservation efforts in building. For example, On Top of the World was recognized for involvement in helping to develop Florida Water Star criteria, and testing water-efficient products and irrigation designs.
“Building to Florida Water Star’s water-efficiency standards are environmentally commendable on their own, but also provide lower utility bills for future families today and in the future,” said Robin Grantham, the coordinator for Florida Water Star at the Southwest Florida Water Management District. “I applaud all our Florida Water Star builders for their stewardship and leadership in protecting Florida’s water.”
More than 4,100 residences and 28 commercial buildings received certification through the program statewide since it began 10 years ago. For more information, visit FloridaWaterStar.com
