"Weekend in My Watershed" Workshop Offers Unique Perspective

News Release

A “Weekend in My Watershed” workshop may give participants a new perspective of their watershed.

The workshop, which is sponsored by the Florida Lake Management Society, the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Pinellas County, will be held June 24 and 25 at the Brooker Creek Preserve.

Participants will explore the preserve and attend formal training and demonstrations at the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center. Workshop topics include an introduction to watersheds, plant function and identification, reptiles and amphibians as indicators, birds and mammals as indicators, rules and regulations and how to deal with the swamp in your backyard, wetlands delineation, and a restoration demonstration.

University of Florida extension agent John Brenneman and naturalists with the District and Pinellas County will lead the workshop sessions.

The cost for both days is $50 per person, which includes all meals and materials. A limited number of $25 scholarships are available from the Florida Lake Management Society. Space is limited to 40 attendees.
