Web Site full of Florida-friendly landscaping tips

News Release

Homeowners planning to spruce up their yards have a new tool to use, but it’s not a tool found in the garage. This tool is the web site FloridaYards.org

The web site features a Florida-friendly plant database, which includes hundreds of color photographs of plants, shrubs and trees. The web site also has pictures of Florida-friendly landscaping in yards throughout the state and an interactive yard tool to help homeowners plan their landscapes.

“FloridaYards.org makes it easy to see what a particular plant looks like, its potential size and light and water needs,” said Sylvia Durell, project manager for the District. “The handy shopping cart feature prints a list people can take with them when they go shopping for plants.”

Florida-friendly landscaping emphasizes nine easy-to-accomplish principles that, when practiced, can make a significant positive impact on yards and the environment. By following Florida-friendly lawn and garden practices, homeowners can use a low-maintenance approach to landscape to conserve water and spend less time working on their lawns and more time enjoying them.

The web site was developed as a partnership among the University of Florida’s Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program, the Southwest Florida Water Management District and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Fusionspark Media, Inc. designed the web site.
