Upper Hillsborough Alston Tract Reserved for Disabled Hunt

News Release

Approximately 14 disabled hunters are expected to participate in a Hog Still Hunt, Jan. 27-29, on the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Alston Tract, which is part of the Upper Hillsborough. The event is organized by the National Wild Turkey Federation/Wheelin’ Sportsmen.

The Alston Tract is located east of Zephyrhills in Pasco and Polk counties. The entrance is off S.R. 39. The property will be closed to the public during the event.

During a hog still hunt, hunters wait in blinds for the hogs.

Members of an equestrian and volunteer group that help maintain the Alston property have offered to provide lunch on Saturday for this event.

This hunt is one of seven outdoor events the District and the Wheelin’ Sportsmen have agreed to partner on this year. This is the first year of a five-year agreement between the two to hold these types of activities.

The seven events held in conjunction with the District are part of more than 24 activities the Wheelin’ Sportsmen group holds throughout Florida each year. Other outings include fishing events, recreational shooting, and other outdoor activities.

Participants for most events are pre-selected. For more information about participating in upcoming activities, visit the National Wild Turkey Federation web site www.nwtf.org.
