Residents Can 'Fix It For Less' to Save Water and Money

News Release

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District":http://www.watermatters.org is encouraging residents to fix leaks and install inexpensive water-saving devices in conjunction with Water Conservation Month.

The District is kicking off its "Fix It for Less" campaign that encourages homeowners to make changes in three areas of the home – the bathroom, kitchen and laundry room – to save water and money.

The campaign features a new website at "WaterMatters.org/FixItForLess/":http://www.WaterMatters.org/FixItForLess, how-to videos and a brochure assisting homeowners in identifying areas that could benefit from installing simple water-saving devices and providing easy step-by-step instructions.

While the District advocates "water conservation":http://www.watermatters.org/conservation year-round, an extra effort is being made to promote conservation throughout April. Governments and water management districts throughout the state have declared April Water Conservation Month because April is traditionally one of the driest months of the year and typically marks the peak demand season for public water suppliers.

Here are some tips to save water in the bathroom and kitchen:
• Check for leaks at your faucet, toilet and showerhead.
• Use a high-efficiency showerhead that flows at a rate of two gallons per minute.
• Replace leaky or old fixtures with WaterSense™ products.

Save water in the laundry room with these tips:
• Check your washing machine hoses for leaks.
• Wash only full loads or check and adjust your water level when washing smaller loads.
• When you need to replace your washer, choose an EnergyStar™ model.
