Pirate Invades World Rivers Day Fest

News Release

A pirate obsessed with water resources will be looking for a few good “mateys” at World Rivers Day Fest, Saturday Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center.

Captain Brackish will talk to his new friends about his three main water concerns – conservation, pollution and monitoring.

Water monitoring is one of the key topics at World Rivers Day.

The first 200 attendees will receive water friendly care packages containing things like introductory micro irrigation kits, low flow retrofit kits, rain gauges and informational materials.

Other entertaining and educational activities include demonstrating water-friendly practices, speakers, live music, children’s activities, 22 interactive exhibits, and artwork by local wildlife artist Ernest Simmons.

World Rivers Day Fest is a cooperative effort among the Southwest Florida Water Management District, Pinellas County and the Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve and is in honor of the United Nation’s “Water for Life Decade” campaign.

The Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center is located at 3940 Keystone Road in Tarpon Springs. For more information about World Rivers Day Fest, please call 727-453-6800.
