Northwest Hillsborough Basin Honors Eileen Hart for Commitment to Water Resources

News Release

Eileen Hart recently received special recognition from the Southwest Florida Water Management’s Northwest Hillsborough Basin Board for her commitment to water resources.

Hart received a special recognition award for her role as a citizen advocate for the protection of water resources. Hart has regularly attended the Governing Board meetings to speak out about the issues impacting the wellfields, lakes and wetlands in her neighborhood.

Her advocacy played a role in the success of the Lake Pretty augmentation project. Lake Pretty, as well as other lakes in the Odessa area, fell to extremely low levels after years of excessive groundwater pumping and drought conditions. The augmentation project improved lake levels and is restoring a 13-acre cypress marsh wetland between Lake Pretty and Horse Lake. The Northwest Hillsborough Basin Board cooperatively funded $114,105 for phases One and Two of this project.

The Northwest Hillsborough Basin is located in the northwest portion of Hillsborough County.
