News Release

Who: Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing and Basin Board members and staff; City of Dunedin and Pinellas County elected officials and staff; Carl Krave, Pocket Neighborhoods, Inc. president; Tampa Bay Builders Association and the Greater Tampa Bay Association of Realtors

What: The District is launching its Florida Water StarSM Gold (FWSG) certification program for builders and developers. The program encourages water efficiency in household appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and landscapes, as well as using Florida-friendly landscaping practices.

When: Wednesday, March 25, 10 to 11:30 a.m. There will be a short ceremony followed by tours of the home.

Where: Glencairn Cottages, 619 Douglas Ave., Dunedin

Why: This is the first development to be certified under the FWSG program. The goal is to promote the water conserving program among builders, developers, real estate agents and homeowners.

FWSG-certified homes are expected to have lower utility bills and require less maintenance by using low-flow plumbing fixtures, high- efficiency toilets, ENERGY STAR® appliances, efficient irrigation systems and a low-maintenance, Florida-friendly landscape.
