"Make a Splash" with Radio Disney at the Pier

News Release

The Southwest Florida Water Management District, Radio Disney and the Pier Aquarium are inviting families to participate in a variety of interactive educational activities on Saturday, October 1.

The day begins at 10 a.m. at the Pier. Visitors can take part in the grand opening of the new Water Walk Exhibit. The Pier Aquarium created the colorful outdoor educational display that leads visitors along the walkway to the Pier. The District’s Pinellas-Anclote River Basin Board, the Pier and the Pier Aquarium and the Pinellas County Environmental Fund provided funding for this exhibit.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker will oversee the ribbon-cutting grand opening ceremony, which will be followed by the “Make a Splash” event and a talent search for the District’s new youth spokesperson, or “kidcaster.” Both of these activities begin at 11 a.m.

Radio Disney will be conducting auditions for the District’s kidcaster. Children ages 8 to 14 are invited to participate. The winner will be featured in water education spots on Radio Disney for the next year. Radio Disney will also have live music, games and prizes during the event.

“Make a Splash” activities allow children of all ages to learn about the importance of water through hands-on activities, including a water trivia contest for free giveaways, groundwater and watershed model demonstrations, answers to questions about water conservation and a tour of the new Water Walk Exhibit.

The District’s goal for this afternoon of interactive, outdoor educational activities is to teach families about our water resources in a fun environment.
