Learn How to Save Water and Money at Gasparilla Island Conservation Workshop

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District(Southwest Florida Water Management District)":/ invites homeowners to a *free water conservation workshop* on *Thursday, Feb. 24*, at *10 a.m.* at the *Boca Grande Community Center Auditorium*. The center is located at 131 First Street West in Boca Grande. No registration is required for this *free workshop*.

Terri Behling, District senior community affairs program manager, will speak, focusing on water conservation and the District's mission of managing the water resources for west-central Florida. Angela Maraj, District regional builder/developer landscape education specialist, will be on hand to answer questions. The Do-it-Yourself Sprinkler System Checkup Guide and other *free educational materials* will be available.

The goal of the workshop is to encourage participants to save water and money by following a few simple tips:

* Don't pour money down the drain! Stop the leaks, slow the flow and use water wisely.
* Water efficiently. Know when to irrigate and for how long.
* Water-saving irrigation: Using rain gauges, rain barrels and drip irrigation.

The District "encompasses roughly 10,000 square miles(Map of the District)":/data/map in all or part of 16 counties and serves a population of more than 5 million people. The goal of the District is to meet the water needs of current and future water users while protecting and preserving the water resources within its boundaries. Water conservation is a key link between balancing current and future water needs, so the District contributes funding and technical expertise to local governments for programs that conserve water and develop alternative water supplies.
