Landscaping Pros Invited to Compete for Title of 'Ruling Water Champion'

The "Southwest Florida Water Management District(Southwest Florida Water Management District)":/ is inviting area landscaping professionals to compete for the title of "Ruling Water Champion" at the District's second Landscape Challenge competition, from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 17 at the District's headquarters, 2379 Broad Street in Brooksville.

Teams of landscape maintenance professionals will compete by demonstrating landscape management practices that protect our water resources.

The Landscape Challenge provides hands-on instruction in a competitive format. It allows participating teams from professional landscape maintenance companies and government facilities departments to demonstrate their real-world application of "Florida-Friendly Landscaping™(Florida-Friendly Landscaping)":/yards techniques. Last year's winning team was from Raymow Enterprises, Inc., an Oldsmar landscape contractor.

Teams will compete in four challenges, which are based on Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ principles:

•"The Spin on Bugs" (Manage yard pests responsibly)
•"Happy Plants" (Right plant, right place)
•"Fertilizer Course" (Fertilize appropriately)
•"Water It Right" (Water efficiently).
