The Dunnellon Homeschool Club will share information it learned about protecting and conserving our water resources with the community at a workshop Thursday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m.
The workshop, which is being held at the Dunnellon Public Library meeting room, 20351 Robinson Road. in Dunnellon, will discuss current events impacting our water supply, the aquifer and other natural systems, and water conservation methods, including Florida-friendly landscaping and rain barrels.
With the aid of a Southwest Florida Water Management District Splash! mini-grant, the students conducted hands-on learning experiences, including installing rain barrels, constructing a watershed model, monitoring water quality and installing Florida-friendly landscaping.
The Splash! mini-grant program is funded through the District’s Basin Boards, including the Withlacoochee River Basin Board. The goal of the program is to promote hands-on water resources education that teaches students about their local watersheds and the water resources within them. Splash! mini-grants provide up to $5,000 per school on a reimbursement basis only and are available to public, private and home school teachers.

In addition to mini-grant funding, the District offers educators free teacher training workshops, speakers for classroom presentations and free educational materials.
