"Florida-Friendly Yards, Grow Smart" Campaign Receives Kudos

News Release

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Governing Board celebrated the success of the “Florida-Friendly Yards, Grow Smart” public awareness campaign Tuesday. The Tampa Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) recently presented the District with a Bronze Quill Award for the campaign. The Bronze Quill award recognizes excellence in business communications.

Winners of the Bronze Quill Award are eligible for the Silver Quill Award, a regional award. Gold Quill Awards are awarded on the national level. The IABC provides a professional network of more than 13,000 business communication professionals in over 60 countries.

The District’s “Florida-Friendly Yards, Grow Smart” television campaign includes three public service announcements. The ads highlight the advantages to the homeowner of employing Florida-friendly landscaping principles such as water conservation and proper fertilizer application.

In addition to the television campaign, the District produced other multi-media components, including radio ads, billboards, print ads and materials to be handed out to the public.

“The District chose a multi-media approach to get the word out about Florida-friendly landscaping,” said Melissa Roe, District project manager. “It is an honor to be recognized for producing an effective product that promotes the protection of water resources.”

Roe says the television ads attracted a lot of attention and really boosted awareness. “Our department had a 700 percent increase in online ordering of materials due to the campaign.”
