The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking public input as it updates its long-range Water Management Plan.
The District’s Water Management Plan addresses the District’s water supply, flood protection, water quality and natural systems goals and responsibilities. The current plan, developed in 2000, is being updated and will be provided to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection by May. The update will focus on key resource management issues together with strategies to resolve them. The existing plan gives the District a starting point for the update.
“This is a great opportunity for those affected by water management decisions and that’s all of us to provide future direction to the District,” said Terry Johnson, planning manager.
The third of four public workshops will be held at the District’s Sarasota Service Office on April 5 at 6:30 p.m. The Sarasota Service Office is located at 6750 Fruitville Road. The workshops allow local governments, citizens and other water users an opportunity to be part of the process.
Written comments are also welcome and can be submitted via mail or E-mail to the District’s Planning Department, no later than April 15.
