District to hold disabled hunt at Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve

News Release

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Hampton Tract, which is part of the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve, will be reserved Nov. 17-19 to allow disabled hunters the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. The property will be closed to the public during this time.

The Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve Hampton Tract’s Polk County entrance is at the intersection of Rockridge Road and Deen Still Road.

The hunt is a joint effort between the District and the National Wild Turkey Federation/Wheelin’ Sportsmen. Approximately 25 hunters have already been selected for this event. They will use shotguns and rifles to hunt deer and hogs. For more information about participating in future events, visit the National Wild Turkey Federation web site www.nwtf.org.

A local restaurant, Jimbo’s Pit Bar-B-Q, has volunteered to provide a meal for the hunters during this event.

This hunt is one of more than 20 events the National Wild Turkey Federation/ Wheelin’ Sportsmen holds throughout Florida each year. Several of these outdoor events are taking place on District land. The outings include different types of hunts and a fishing day.
