The Southwest Florida Water Management District recently approved an agreement providing funding assistance for the Pinellas County Ultra Low-Flow Toilet Rebate Project.
The project is a cooperatively funded effort between Pinellas County and the District’s Pinellas-Anclote River Basin Board. The goal of the fifth phase of the project is to promote water conservation by providing toilet rebates of up to $100 for each high-volume toilet replaced with a low-flow model. The goal is to replace up to 13,440 high volume toilets. The project targets residential and commercial customers of Pinellas County Utilities including the cities of Clearwater, Pinellas Park, Safety Harbor and Tarpon Springs.
This phase of the project is expected to reduce the demand on the regional system by saving a total of 275,500 gallons of water per day. Under the agreement Pinellas County will inspect the installed toilets and report the water saved using actual water use data.
The total cost for this phase is $1.9 million. As part of the agreement, Pinellas County will receive up to $977,760 in financial assistance from the District’s Pinellas-Anclote River Basin Board.
