District Employee Selected to Serve on Statewide Advisory Committee

Ed Craig, Manager of the "Facilitating Agricultural Resource Management Systems":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/agriculture/farms/ (FARMS) Program at the "Southwest Florida Water Management District ":http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/ (District), has been selected as one of three professionals in the state of Florida to serve as a non-voting technical advisor to the Florida Farm Bureau's (FFB) Water Natural Resources Advisory Committee for a one-year term. This honor allows Mr. Craig to serve in an advisory capacity for the FFB State Board of Directors.

Mr. Craig brings 20 years of professional experience in agriculture, environmental science and environmental regulation, with employment at the District and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. He is a Certified Professional Soil Scientist through the American Registry of Certified Professionals in Agronomy Crops and Soils also known as ARCPACS, a Federation of Certifying Boards in Agriculture, Biology, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Mr. Craig is a member of the Society of Wetland Scientists, the American Society of Agronomy and the Florida Farm Bureau. Mr. Craig was one of the co-founders of the FARMS Program at the District.

Raised in Manatee County, Mr. Craig grew up in an agricultural setting. At an early age he worked on his family's 10,000-acre vegetable production farm. He also gained agricultural experience herding and vaccinating cattle on a ranch, at a seedling plant nursery, and worked for a vegetable packing facility. During his school years, Mr. Craig participated in the 4-H Club, Manatee County Sheriff's Mounted Posse, and National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Organization, serving as president of his chapter during his senior year at Manatee High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the School of Agriculture in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at Purdue University. While at Purdue, Mr. Craig was a member of the Environmental Science Club and Indiana Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association, and was employed with Purdue's Agronomy Department.

Mr. Craig will offer his knowledge and experiences in agriculture and technical skills to voting FFB Water Natural Resources Committee members in their efforts to shape and establish policy and initiatives, and review existing policy and procedure in his new role as a non-voting technical advisor.

Mr. Craig is very active in his community serving in the past as a land judging and soil judging coach for local high school and middle school teams, a science fair judge at the county fair, and as an assistant wrestling coach at Manatee High School from 1995-2004 and again from 2009 to present day. Mr. Craig is married to his wife Courtney and has three children, Marshall (15), Kaitlyn (13), and Van (2).
