District Declares April Water Conservation Month

News Release

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Governing Board Tuesday declared April “Water Conservation Month.”

By proclaiming April to be Water Conservation Month, the District has joined 31 other local governments and Tampa Bay Water in an effort to call attention to the need for water conservation. Local governments participating include Charlotte, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties and the cities of New Port Richey, Tampa and St. Petersburg.

April is part of Florida’s dry season, a good time to focus on water and how we can conserve more of what we have in the Sunshine State.

The rainy season starts in June. On average, Florida receives 60 percent of its annual rainfall June through September.

The District has several events that focus on water conservation planned this month including appearances by Ripply and the District’s water conservation restroom station. The restroom trailer will be at the Venice Sharks Tooth Festival, Earthfest in Pinellas County and the Mainsail Arts & Crafts Show in St. Petersburg.

The District will also unveil a new “Florida’s Water – It’s Worth Saving” public service announcement campaign and its watershed pledge. The watershed pledge will be distributed to more than 28,000 students who are participating in the District’s Splash! mini grant program. The watershed pledge will also be distributed to participants in the District’s community education grant program.
