Clearwater Reclaimed Water Project Receives District Funding

News Release

A Clearwater reclaimed water project is receiving continued support from the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

The Clearwater Morningside Reclaimed Water Transmission and Distribution project consists of the design and construction of reclaimed water transmission lines and distribution lines.

The project will supply reclaimed water to the Morningside service area, which includes approximately 760 residential homes, eight commercial customers and the Morningside Recreation Complex and McMullen Tennis Center.

When the project is complete, it will supply an estimated 590,000 gallons per day (gpd) of reclaimed water, which will offset 350,000 gpd of potable and potable quality groundwater.

The Clearwater Morningside Reclaimed Water Transmission and Distribution project is a cooperatively funded effort between the city of Clearwater and the District’s Pinellas-Anclote River Basin Board. The project is expected to cost $4.5 million. Clearwater received $250,000 in financial assistance from the District’s Pinellas-Anclote River Basin Board in fiscal year (FY) 2005. At its August meeting, the board agreed to fund $800,000 in FY 2006. In addition, the project will receive another $400,000 from the state’s Water Protection and Sustainability Program for alternative water supply projects and surface water restoration projects. Per the agreement, the city has requested $1 million in funding for FY 2007. This funding is contingent upon basin board approval.

The design phase began in June. Construction is scheduled to be complete by December 2008.
